About Lisa Johnson
From the bedside to the C-suite.
A relationship-driven healthcare technology leader bridging clinical care, operations and digital transformation.
The story
Technology was never the starting point.
Lisa Johnson began her career at the bedside.
As a feeding specialist in the NICU and PICU at Legacy Health in Portland, Oregon, she saw healthcare from the perspective that would ultimately shape everything that followed: the patient, the clinician and the people doing the work.
Then came an opportunity she hadn’t planned for.
Hospital leadership asked Lisa to help lead the health system’s first Epic electronic health record implementation.
It moved her career in an entirely different direction.
She moved from clinical care into healthcare technology, but she never stopped thinking like a clinician.
That distinction matters.
Because Lisa understands that the technology decision made in a conference room eventually reaches someone on the other side of it.
- A clinician.
- A team.
- A patient.
And that understanding became the foundation of her leadership.
From clinical care to enterprise leadership
She learned to speak both languages.
Lisa’s career continued to expand across clinical operations, strategic planning, healthcare technology and enterprise leadership.
- She built large scale Epic Community Connect programs and expanded electronic health record access to underserved communities.
- She moved into executive roles at Bluetree Network and Providence Community Technologies.
- She became a founding leader at Tegria, where she expanded the firm’s healthcare technology consulting practice into the United Kingdom.
- And eventually, she returned to Providence.
- Today, Lisa serves as a regional CIO, overseeing technology strategy and digital transformation across a multi-state healthcare organization.
Her scope has changed dramatically since those early days at the bedside. Her perspective hasn’t.
Technology should serve people, not the other way around.
Lisa's perspective
Clinical + Operational + Strategy + Digital.
There are executives who understand healthcare. There are executives who understand technology. There are executives who set strategy.
Lisa’s career has required her to do all three, and then bring people across an organization together to make them work.
Clinical
Her clinical background gives her immediate credibility with physicians and care teams.
Operational
Her operational experience allows her to understand how decisions actually move through a health system.
Digital
Her technology leadership allows her to connect those realities to infrastructure, digital strategy, AI and enterprise transformation.
Strategy
Her strategic perspective ties all of it to where the organization is going: which priorities matter most, and what has to happen first to reach them.
But Lisa's real strength is the space between them.
She translates. She connects. She creates alignment. She turns strategy into something people can actually carry out. And she leads through relationships and influence, not simply authority.
“I connect the clinical, the operational, the digital and the strategic, and I bring people with me every step of the way.”

How Lisa leads
Five principles. One operating philosophy.
Visibility
People need to understand where you’re going and why.
Alignment
Transformation becomes possible when people understand the mission and move toward the same outcome.
Trust
Relationships are infrastructure. Trust makes difficult work possible.
Execution
Strategy only matters when an organization can actually act on it.
Acceleration
Get the foundation right, create alignment and then move.
Personal philosophy
“No dead bodies in my wake.”
It’s one of Lisa’s most memorable leadership principles. Because for her, getting to the outcome isn’t enough. How you get there matters.
Transformation requires people to change, trust, collaborate and sometimes move before every answer is obvious. Lisa believes leaders have a responsibility to bring people with them.
Hold a high standard. Tell the truth. Build trust. Create clarity. And don't leave a trail of people behind in pursuit of the result.
Community leadership
Leadership that creates more leaders.
Lisa’s work has never stopped with her own career.
She co-founded Women in Rise at Providence, a mentorship community pairing rising women with female IT executives to help advance women in healthcare technology leadership.
She also speaks to students and emerging leaders, particularly those who may not see themselves reflected in the traditional technology leadership path.
Lisa knows something about that. Her own path wasn’t linear. It started in clinical care.
And that’s part of why she believes so strongly that someone’s starting point doesn’t have to determine where they can lead.
Beyond the day job
Bringing the conversation outside the boardroom.
Lisa brings her experience into conversations about healthcare AI, digital transformation, organizational leadership and the future of healthcare technology.
Her perspective has been shared through healthcare industry events, leadership conversations, podcasts and programs, including HIMSS, CIO Forum and MIT’s AI Strategy and Leadership Executive Certification.
But regardless of the room, Lisa approaches these conversations the same way she approaches the work:
Skip the hype. Start with what actually has to happen.
